Installation of ikea kitchen with your own help

Installation of IKEA kitchen by yourself

It will help you save money or spend even more.

Look carefully at the picture above. Is this really the result you want in your kitchen? This is just one of many examples of people choosing to assemble an IKEA kitchen on their own - and unfortunately, it turned out exactly as we often see in our practice. Lack of precision, misaligned cabinets, visible gaps and design flaws that can't be easily fixed. And that's the sad reality: even if you invest 80,000 crowns in a quality kitchen, poor assembly can relegate it to the level of cheap hobby market furniture. Is the risk worth it?

Installation of IKEA kitchen by yourself: Is it really worth the risk?

When thinking of a new kitchen, many of us consider whether to save costs and go ahead with the installation of a kitchen on our own. At first glance, this may seem like a good idea, but it's important to consider all the risks and pitfalls that this step entails.

1. Technical complexity and accuracy

The kitchen (even if the IKEA kitchen looks like a jigsaw) is one of the most technically complex parts of the home. In addition to the actual installation of the individual cabinets, it is necessary to ensure the correct connection to the water and sewage systems, electrical wiring and often gas. Mistakes in these tasks can lead to serious problems such as water leaks, malfunctioning appliances or even fire hazards.

2. Expertise and joinery precision

Assembling an IKEA kitchen correctly requires not only basic skills, but also a deeper knowledge of joinery. As professionals, we are experienced in accurately aligning cabinets, properly anchoring them to different types of walls, and solving atypical space constraints and curved wall problems.

Without the necessary equipment and practice, it's easy to make mistakes that will affect the functionality and aesthetics of the entire kitchen:

  • Inaccuracies in alignment - Even a small deviation of a few millimetres can cause problems with door opening or with worktop seating.
  • Faulty attachment of lockers - Poorly anchored upper cabinets can loosen over time and, in the worst case, come loose completely.
  • Incorrect work with materials - For example, over-tightening the fastening screws can lead to cracking of the chipboard or laminate.

Every space is different, and few kitchens can be installed at a perfectly right angle or on a perfectly flat floor. Without experience, it's very easy to make mistakes that you often don't realise until it's too late. For example, if your walls have an angle greater than 90 degrees, unprofessional fitting almost always leads to visible gaps and inaccuracies. Only experience can help you install your kitchen so that these unevennesses remain invisible. What about the floor? If it's not completely level, you may spend hours trying to align the cabinets correctly - only to eventually find that the skirting doesn't stick because you've lowered them too much. The result? A kitchen that looks unprofessional and doesn't function as it should. We deal with these issues on a daily basis - and that's why it's worth leaving the installation to the experts.

3. Quality and durability of the kitchen

Incorrect installation can lead to faster wear and tear of kitchen components. Poorly assembled cabinets, improperly installed appliances or inadequate sealing can cause your new kitchen to not last as long as it should.

4. Warranty and Claims

Many kitchen manufacturers only provide a guarantee if the installation is carried out by a certified professional. Self-assembly can result in a loss of warranty claims in the event of a defect.

5. Time consuming and stressful

Assembling a kitchen is not a matter of hours. Without experience, it can take several days or weeks, during which time you may have to deal with unexpected problems and complications. All of this can lead to unnecessary stress and an extended period of time when you won't be able to fully use your kitchen.

While it may seem tempting to save money on a DIY kitchen installation, it's important to consider all the risks and potential complications. Investing in a professional installation is often worthwhile, not only in terms of quality and safety, but also in terms of peace of mind and the reassurance that your kitchen will serve you without problems for many years to come.
